Prayagraj: The Kumbh Mela Authority has initiated a plan to overcome poor mobile connectivity in the Maha Kumbh area. Be it the 2013 Maha Kumbh, 2019 Kumbh, or even the Magh Mela, poor mobile connectivity has been one of the most troublesome issues for any visitor. To overcome this, during Maha Kumbh, 190 temporary mobile towers will be installed in the fair area.

Along with this, permanent mobile towers will also be erected on all govt lands to relieve the city from network jams. After the instruction from the Ministry of Telecom, all the mobile companies have agreed to enhance their network. “We have seen in all the annual religious fairs organised in the past at the Sangam banks, be it Magh Mela, Kumbh, or Maha Kumbh, its a herculean task to connect calls.

We can hardly talk to anyone, let alone video call on WhatsApp or Google,” said Madan Mohan Srivastava, a resident of Rajroopur. The problem persists in every Magh Mela despite tall claims made by administration, he added. For Maha Kumbh 2025, providing proper mobile network is a challenge, especially given the fact that there are many tech-savvy youngsters and YouTubers who would be making reels for social platforms.

Recently, in a meeting when cabinet secretary Rajiv Gauba asked telecom department about the preparations for the above-mentioned challenge in Delhi, the officers of the department informed that this time 190 temporary mobile towers are being installed. It was informed that companies like BSNL, Vodafone, Airtel, and Reliance Jio have given consent to install 190 temporary towers in the fair area. At the same time, consent has been given to install permanent towers on the buildings of railways, army, municipal corporation, and govt schools.

“In Maha Kumbh, we are making special preparations to improve the mobile network and all the service providers have agreed to it. For this, they have agreed to install additional towers at Kumbh campus.
