KOLLAM: An Instagram celebrity has been arrested in connection with the theft of 17 sovereigns of gold from the houses of her sister-in-law and friends. The arrested has been identified as Mubeena, a native of Bhajanamadam. In September last year, a six-sovereign thali chain, two chains of one sovereign each and earrings weighing two grams each were missing from the house of Mubeena's sister-in-law Muneera in Kizhinila.
It was on October 10 that Muneera came to know that the gold had been stolen. When Muneera checked the CCTV of the house, she found Mubeena returning from the house on the morning of September 30. It was found that no one else had visited the house till October 10.
Muneera lodged a complaint with the Chithara police on October 12 after collecting the visuals. In January, Mubeena's friend had also lodged a similar theft complaint against Mubeena. Mubeena's sister-in-law has lodged a fresh complaint while the investigation into that case is going on.
Though Mubeena's husband had recently gone abroad, she was leading a luxurious life. Mubeena was using a phone worth Rs 1.5 lakh.
She was taken into custody and questioned but she did not admit to committing the theft first. Mubeena confessed that she had committed both thefts during the interrogation conducted by the police along with the visuals. Mubeena has given a statement that the gold was stolen for leading a luxurious life.
The police have recovered some of the stolen gold and cash from Mubeena's house. Mube.
