A businessman has raised an impressive sum for Hope House Tŷ Gobaith children’s hospices - by walking 165 miles. Gaz Hughes, of Colwyn Interiors, trekked between Cardiff Castle and Conwy Castle in six days back in May. With support from friends, family, and even strangers along the way, he managed to raise £4,234.
Mr Hughes said: “It was a tough challenge but very enjoyable knowing I was helping local children and families. "I wish to thank every single person who was kind enough to make a donation – it helped get me through the hardest parts." Joining Mr Hughes were friends Mark McClinden and Roy Chape, who raised funds for motor neurone disease and Cancer Research, respectively.
The staff of Hope House Tŷ Gobaith children’s hospices expressed their gratitude for Mr Hughes's efforts. The hospices, located in Hope House in Oswestry and Tŷ Gobaith in Conwy, provide specialist nursing care and support to more than 750 children and their families across North and Mid Wales, Shropshire, and Cheshire. It costs £7.
5 million per year to run the hospice's services. Two months' income comes from statutory sources, while the hospices are reliant on public support for the other ten months of the year..
