Enjoy delicious servings at Jungle Cafe in Galway There was weeping and gnashing of teeth in recent months when, after almost 30 years, Simon McWilliams hung up his apron at his eponymous Simon’s Place in Dublin’s George’s Street Arcade. This was an arty bohemian cosy home-away-from-home cafe of the ‘where everyone knows your name’ variety. Sadly the aroma of freshly baked cinnamon buns no longer wafts down the arcade each morning, with Simon’s Place being replaced by a minimalist-style coffee shop.

It’s a clinical space with a grab-and-go ordering counter and sparse shelf seating around the room, selling coffee, sourdough toasties and patisserie “from bakeries around Dublin”. Join the Irish Independent WhatsApp channel Stay up to date with all the latest news.
