In the era of AI, we already know to be cautious about believing what we see online. However, 2024 has presented new challenges when consuming content about our favorite celebrities – watching out for deep fake scams that use a star’s likeness to get your private information. In a new report, computer security company McAfee revealed the 10 stars who are most likely to be used by hackers in online scams.
These stars are not involved in the process, but their images are tricking internet users into risky situations that leave them compromised. “With cybercriminals using advanced AI tools to create more convincing scams, the risks are growing, and celebrity names are the perfect bait for curious consumers,” Abhishek Karnik , McAfee’s head of threat research, said in a statement shared with Variety . “That’s why people need to stay vigilant and think twice before clicking.
While AI-generated content isn’t always harmful, it’s becoming harder to tell what’s real and what’s fake.” Which stars made the list this year? The top 10 featured some very familiar faces including Kylie Jenner , Tom Hanks , Taylor Swift and Sydney Sweeney . However, none of them claimed the top spot.
