According to sources familiar with the situation, the U.S. and Russia are set to issue a joint statement on Tuesday morning following discussions in Saudi Arabia aimed at reaching a maritime ceasefire agreement in the Black Sea, CBS News reports.
The statement is expected to be released at 4 a.m. in Washington, D.
C., and at 11 a.m.
in Moscow, as indicated by two of the sources. While the specifics of the statement remain unclear for now, reports from the U.S.
technical team in Riyadh conveyed an optimistic outlook to the Trump administration, the sources noted. One of the sources mentioned that Ukrainian officials have also been briefed on the developments. A Russian negotiator informed the state news agency TASS on Tuesday that Moscow is committed to continuing “constructive” talks with the U.
S. concerning the Ukraine conflict and is looking to involve the U.N.
and other nations, as reported by the French news agency AFP. Grigory Karasin stated, “We discussed a wide range of issues; it was a thorough dialogue—challenging but ultimately beneficial for both us and the Americans,” adding that “numerous issues were addressed” during the 12 hours of negotiations held in a luxury hotel in Saudi Arabia. A prior agreement facilitated by the U.
N. and Turkey, which Russia departed in 2023 , had permitted maritime shipping in the Black Sea, enabling both nations to export grain. Participants in the discussions from the U.
S. side include Michael Anton from the State Depart.
