The Elm Tree Inn, Langton Herring, has been at the heart of the community for more than 300 years, but it sadly shut in November 2023, with a 'decline in trade' and a 'challenging operating environment' blamed for the closure. A group of locals are determined to take it over and run it as a community pub and, as reported, campaigners have since had their offer for the freehold of the property accepted. However, the fundraising must continue - with the aim of raising a further £100k by mid April - as money is needed for start-up costs – but the Friends are ‘certain’ that their dream will become a reality.

They are now ramping up the antics whilst they attempt to pass the final hurdle and have set up a mega prize draw. Prizes include three one-week cottage holidays in the village of Langton Herring, a supercar driving experience, a one-week holiday in West Bexington, ‘rare’ bottles of wine, whisky and brandy, luxury hampers and gifts, as well as vouchers and tickets for local attractions and retailers.
