A BRITPOP band which knocked Oasis from the number one spot in the charts are returning to Colchester for two shows. The Bluetones will headline Three Wise Monkeys, in High Street for two shows on Wednesday and Thursday. Comprised of Mark Morriss on vocals, Adam Devlin on guitar, Scott Morriss on bass and Eds Chesters on drums, the group formed in 1993 and released their debut album Expecting To Fly in 1996.
The album knocked Oasis’ What’s The Story Morning Glory off the number one spot upon its release in February of that year. Mark spoke to The Gazette ahead of the two shows and nationwide tour.
He said: “We were there last summer on election night actually. “We’ve got two rollicking nights, so we’re looking forward to it, it is a great room to play. “It’s kicking off the tour, Colchester is a nice place, I’ve got some friends there and Eds has some family there.
” According to the frontman, Three Wise Monkeys was an appealing choice of venue as the theme of the tour is “smaller club shows” for the “hardcore fans”. Fans will also get the chance to hear In The Cut first, a project “which was great fun” to record at their studio in Surrey. This year, there seems to be a revival of Britpop bands touring or releasing new music, .
