Lunch is my least favourite meal of the day. Choosing what I want to eat for dinner every day is hard enough, so when I'm busy working from home, the last thing I want to do is cook something extravagant. To sidestep this issue, I have simply taken to eating the same ingredient every day.

Avocados are one of my favourite foods - they're healthy, filling and versatile, and can be used in so many different meals. But it's no secret that they can taste pretty bland and boring on their own. I've been having my avocado fixation for a couple of months now, and I'm yet to get sick of them.

A simple avocado smash on toast is just unbeatable, and I think I've discovered the secret to making it taste like something you'd get in a trendy brunch restaurant. It's not that avocados taste bad - they just don't have that flavour hit that is so needed at lunchtime. And so after trialling a few different additions, there are two cupboard staples that really elevate it to new heights.

Crispy chilli oil and honey might sound like an odd combination, but trust me on this - you'll never eat avocados the same way again. The combination of the spicy, crunchy topping paired with the sweet drizzle of honey is so moreish, and it'll instantly transform your plain old avocado smash. In my opinion, you cannot beat the Lao Gan Ma brand of chilli crisp, which you can buy from most Asian supermarkets.

A jar of this stuff lasts a couple of months, since you don't need a lot to achieve that gorgeous flavour. Y.
