DI Humphrey Goodman (Marshall) left heading up the police force on Saint Marie to be with Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton) and moved to her hometown of Shipton Abbott. After joining the local police force there, he was soon involved in a number of twisty cases to solve. In terms of the plot for Series 3, the says: "The team faces a host of baffling cases in the upcoming series, including a body discovered in a river on the county border, a perplexing chocolate box poisoning, a long-standing farming feud, and a spiking incident at sea.

Discussing the new series with the Radio Times, Bretton discussed how viewers were quite satisfied to not see Humphrey and Martha go through too much drama.
