As detectives hunt the assassins behind Abdulrahim's daylight execution in Melbourne on Tuesday, many in the underworld think they know exactly why he got clipped in the deadly ambush. It harks back to his warm embrace of Kadir Ors, moments before he was gunned down by the once all-powerful Melbourne crime boss George Marrogi.



Many feel Abdulrahim set up Ors for the hit - and that he played the wrong card when he chose to side with Marrogi. In the years since Ors was gunned down in 2016, Marrogi has been jailed and had his criminal empire torn to shreds by determined Victorian police work. Ors was by no means an upstanding member of the public.

What made him different was his relationship to men who would go onto become the real criminal overlords of today. The brother of exiled crime boss Kaz Hamad was with Ors when Abdulrahim greeted him - and later chased Marrogi moments af.
