But that might be changing. The Tigers, who were 83-4 in regular-season league games during the last five years, are off to a 6-1 start, but everything is not the same.



Head coach Tomekia Reed made an offseason move from Jackson State to take the top spot at UNC-Charlotte, and the entire Tigers roster has turned over. Jackson State (8-10, 6-1 SWAC) will pay a visit to Southern on Thursday. The Tigers and Jaguars (8-12, 6-1) are tied for second place in the SWAC standings behind Texas Southern.

Thursday's game, the only regular-season meeting between the schools, tips off at 6:30 p.m. at the F.

G. Clark Activity Center. "(Jackson State) kind of mirrors us a little bit," Southern coach Carlos Funchess said.

"They have some shooters on the wings, they have athletic players at the four position, and they can step out and shoot. They're also going to be really deep so it will kind of be like looking at yourself in the mirror." Jackson State's top shooter has been Taleah Dilworth, who was named the SWAC impact player of the week after scoring 42 points .
