The Princess of Wales, Catherine, recently attended a deeply moving event with her husband, Prince William, to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. The couple participated in a special reception at the Guildhall in London, where they paid tribute to around 50 Holocaust survivors, all while remembering the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. Kate's outfit for the occasion expertly reflected the sombre mood of the venue.

She wore black flared trousers paired with a simple black top and a smart blazer. But of course, it is her pearls that left a lasting impression. Kate's jewellery choices, always known to be elegant and understated, were carefully selected to honour the solemn nature of the day.



She wore a layered pearl necklace and her signature Bahrain Pearl Drop earrings, a meaningful gift from Queen Elizabeth II. For the unversed, pearls have long been part of royal mourning attire, a tradition dating back to Queen Victoria, who wore pearls after the death of Prince Albert in 1861. The pearls, largely symbolizing tears, have remained a powerful part of the royal mourning tradition ever since.

Kate's multi-strand pearl necklace is a lot more meaningful considering it was designed by Jewish label Susan Caplan. It not only tied in with the occasion but also spoke to the importance of remembrance and respect for the victims of the Holocaust. The all-black ensemble, another sign of mourning, paired with the pearls, added an extra layer of meaning, subtly reinforcing the gra.
