The White House is reportedly planning to send a memo Tuesday offering federal workers a buyout. An administration official tells Axios that the offer stands for federal employees who don’t want to return to the office through Sept. 30, and will be applicable so long as they resign by Feb.

6. “The government-wide email being sent today is to make sure that all federal workers are on board with the new administration’s plan to have federal employees in office and adhering to higher standards,” a senior administration official told Axios. “We’re five years past COVID and just 6 percent of federal employees work full-time in office.



That is unacceptable.” The outlet adds that the White House expects five to ten percent of employees to accept the buyout, potentially slicing “hundreds of thousands of people” out of their jobs. The administration also reportedly predicts that the buyouts will save taxpayers up to $100 billion a year.

The offer applies to all full-time federal employees, excluding military personnel, the Postal Service and those part of immigration enforcement and national security. The Medicaid website portal went dark after President Donald Trump ordered a temporary freeze on federal aid and grants Tuesday. State Medicaid programs use the online system to receive federal funding.
