Inspired by the Dean Hargrove show of the same name, Matlock flips the gender of the protagonist from the original series, in which Andy Griffith played the titular role of Ben Matlock. The show premiered on September 22, 2024, and the ongoing season reportedly has 19 episodes.
However, no new episode aired this week at its scheduled time of Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET, making the viewers wonder what happened.
Here’s what we have found out about the matter.Why is Matlock on a break?Matlock is currently on a break because it has been pre-empted by March Madness, the NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament, which is also known as the Big Dance. The tournament started on Thursday, March 20, 2025, and some of these games are slated to air on CBS.
Arkansas will take on Kansas in the first round of the men’s competition at 7:10 pm ET. Afterward, St. John’s will compete against Omaha from 9:45 pm ET.
Accordingly, if a viewer tunes in to CBS during Matlock’s regular hour, they will find either of the themes games instead on the channel.When will Matlock return with new episodes on CBS?Matlock Season 1 has aired 15 episodes to date. So, it will return with its 16th episode on April 3, 2025, after a two-week hiatus, at the show’s usual time slot.
