It’s been almost two years since was announced, and now there’s a new update! According to , George Nolfi has been brought on board as the screenwriter for the project. Nolfi, best known for writing and , will be tackling a story focused on Daisy Ridley’s Rey as she trains a new generation of Jedi. The film will mark the narrative directorial debut of Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, an acclaimed documentary filmmaker.
Set 15 years after the events of the sequel trilogy, the movie centers on Rey and her efforts to guide young Jedi in rebuilding the Order. Initially, Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson worked on the script before Obaid-Chinoy joined the project. Later, when Daisy Ridley’s return was confirmed, creator Steven Knight also took a turn at refining the screenplay.
However, the quest for the perfect script has caused delays. With currently scheduled for release in May 2026, Shawn Levy’s project—rumored to possibly feature Ryan Gosling—will now begin production first. If Nolfi’s version of the script moves forward, it’ll be a shift from the thrillers he’s known for.
But given the revolving door of writers on this film, it’s clear Disney is committed to ensuring the final story is worth the wait. Stay tuned for more updates as this promising chapter takes shape!
