Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson headed out for Burn's Night to a top chef's new fine dining restaurant in Cheshire . And he managed to net a Scottish special too. Former Reds manager Sir Alex was a guest at Li-Ly Restaurant in Knutsford , the new venture from award-winning chef Aiden Byrne.

And as his visit coincided with Burn's Night, the celebration of the life of Robert Burns, Scotland's national poet, his party couldn't resist asking for a special Scottish request on the night. Aiden and wife Sarah opened their new fine dining restaurant in the historic market town at the end of last year. Based in an 18th century timber-clad building, the restaurant is already winning acclaim for its monthly-changing seasonal taster menus.

It is traditional for those celebrating Burn's Night to toast the occasion with haggis, neeps and tatties and whisky. So when Sir Alex headed along with long-time pals including Ged Mason, boss of Manchester's Morson Group they had a special request for haggis. Aiden was happy to cook up the special for the table of diners as a one off.

Posting a picture on Instagram, Aiden wrote: "A last minute request from Sir Alex Ferguson for some Haggis on Burns Night @Li_Ly Restaurant. Thank you for joining us."
