Hyderabad: Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to Mekala Thirupathanna, a suspended police officer presently in jail in connection with the phone tapping case. Justice BV Nagarathna led bench stated that if accused does not cooperate in investigation, bail can be revoked. Senior Advocate Sidharth Luthra appeared for the state whereas Senior Advocate Sidharth Dave appeared for the officer.

On January 2, the Telangana police had informed the apex court that the suspended police officer M. Thirupathanna was the key accused in the phone-tapping case. He played a major role in tapping phones of political leaders, journalist and celebrities when the BRS was in power, police said.
