A sharp modern comedy from one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed screenwriters is now available to stream on Netflix in the US. Starring a beloved sitcom star and a celebrated British actor from the likes of Outlander and The Crown, this slice-of-life dramedy may have slipped under the radar but it’s well worth giving a shot. Nicole Holofcener penned and directed the flick, best known for writing Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel and the Oscar-nominated biopic Can You Ever Forgive Me?, plus directing films like Enough Said and Friends with Money.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Tobias Menzies lead the film, titled You Hurt My Feelings, portraying a couple whose marriage is put under strain by a white lie. When successful memoir writer Beth (Louis-Dreyfus) completes her first novel, her agent demands some extensive rewrites but Don (Menzies) insists he loves it. However, when Beth accidentally overhears her husband confessing he hates the book to his brother-in-law she starts to spiral, questioning everything about their relationship.

The film sharply satirizes modern marriage and family life and has received rave reviews from movie buffs who have been delighted by the thought-provoking drama and hilarious observations about relationships in the 21st Century. “I never review movies but I need to review this one because it seems like it would be easy for it to slip through the cracks,” one fan gushed in a five-star Google review. “This movie is the most authentic film I have seen in.
