President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Monday honored Gloria Romero , who recently passed away at the age of 91. In a brief statement, Marcos said he was ''deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of Philippine cinema's great icons,'' adding that he truly admires Romero as an actress.

''I first met Gloria Romero on the set while filming Iginuhit ng Tadhana, and have been an admirer of her work as an actress ever since. She was always a great lady with the dignity of a true star,'' Marcos said. ''Not just a brilliant artist but a very fine person, the world of Filipino cinema and all of entertainment will never forget her,'' he added.



Marcos played as himself in the movie ''Iginuhit ng Tadhana: The Ferdinand E. Marcos Story.'' The veteran actress' wake is being held at Arlington Memorial Chapel in Quezon City.

Romero, who won multiple acting awards during her more than 70-year career, was recognized for her outstanding performances in films "Magnifico," "Dalagang Ilocana," "Tarima," "Tanging Yaman,'' and ''Rainbow's Sunset.'' The Queen of Philippine Cinema also appeared on various television shows. Upon news of her death, celebrities quickly took to social media to mourn her passing.
