Mexican-American singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez was only 23 years old when she was killed by her former employee, Yolanda Saldivar. Yolanda Saldivar, the convicted killer of Tejano music legend Selena Quintanilla-Perez, has been denied parole after having spent decades in prison. The decision was taken by a panel in Texas, days ahead of the 30th anniversary of the incident, which left fans of the Mexican American singer shocked.

Yolanda, who was the founder of Selena’s fan club, killed the singer after a heated confrontation in a motel in 1995. She was convicted of first-degree murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment with the possibility of parole after 30 years. In a public statement, the Texas Board of Pardons and Parole stated that Saldivar’s case had been under review for around six months before she became eligible for parole on March 31, further adding that she won’t be eligible for five more years.



“After a thorough consideration of all available information, which included any confidential interviews conducted, it was the parole panel’s determination to deny parole to Yolanda Saldivar and set her next parole review for March 2030," the statement added as per The New York Times. It added that Saldivar’s criminal record indicates that her offense contained “elements of brutality, violence, assaultive behaviour, or conscious selection of victim’s vulnerability, indicating a conscious disregard for the lives, safety, or property of others," thus she.
