WATERLOO — A new north side child care center is shaping up near UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital. The 9,000-square-foot Cedar Valley Kids facility is under construction in the North Crossing development, which is along U.S.
Highway 63 north of Donald Street where the former Logan Plaza was located. The center is projected to open in late spring. An open house is planned for the summer.
Construction of childcare facility Construction of the Cedar Valley Kids child care center is underway. “We have had nothing but positive reactions,” said Mary Janssen, regional director of Child Care Resource and Referral of Northeast Iowa. “The support we have received is amazing from local foundations.
This project is a great example of a strong community collaboration.” The center received a state Business Incentive Grant of more than $2 million in 2022 for construction of the facility. Earlier this month, a second round of state grants were handed out, including another $496,174 for the project.
The expansion adds one classroom with another 16 child care slots, bringing the total to 116. The facility will be open to children ages 6 weeks to 11 years old and have 50-70 staff members.
