The 25th anniversary edition of the Lakmé Fashion Week, in partnership with FDCI, opened with an incredible showcase by AK|OK Anamika Khanna at Mumbai’s Jio World Convention Centre on March 26, 2025. Kicking off the show was Lakmé’s brand ambassador Ananya Panday, who sashayed down the runway in a captivating silver bralette and blue trousers. Rooted in individualism, the designer’s runway presentation titled ‘Silver Collar’ is an elevated take on power dressing fused with modern femininity that Khanna is known for.
“The inspiration for Ananya’s outfit came from the silver jewellery worn by the Rabari tribe. We treated the entire silver piece as the palla. What I really love about Ananya’s look is that jewellery can be worn as a garment.
We have used a thick satin for the trousers and also done a lot of cut-work on the sides and seams. The embroidery and the motifs on the trousers that you see have come out of various cultural references from India. It’s basically a look that allows the trousers to translate into a sari,” reveals Khanna.
Precious materials, from pure silver and gold threads to weave zari saris to gemstones embedded on outfits, have long been used to craft exquisite ensembles in India. A slew of stars have often decked themselves in outfits dripping in jewels.
