Casting is arguably the single most underappreciated aspect of filmmaking, because no matter how great a script or director might be, it's extremely difficult to fix an actor who simply isn't right for a part. And so, the Academy's decision to introduce a Best Casting Oscar with next year's ceremony is certainly long overdue. While we can't really be sure how a given role will turn out until we're sitting down to watch it, it's clear that these 10 movies have all made utterly sublime, applause-worthy casting choices upfront.
The moment these actors were announced to be playing these roles, film lovers immediately got it - each of them just made total sense. From actors playing tricky real-life figures to those hired to portray legendary fictional characters and everything else in between, these players are all note-perfect choices for these roles on paper. Of course it remains to be seen whether the script and overall filmmaking actually take full advantage of their suitedness to the part, but from what we know so far, these actors all seem set to knock these roles right out of the park.
