The beauty of March Madness is that it allows programs that don't usually get national attention to be thrust into the spotlight. Sometimes, when that happens, players at small schools string together memorable performances that become legends. BYU is now in the Big 12, but it used to be in the Mountain West and West Coast Conferences, both markedly smaller than the Big 12.

The Cougars are no strangers to having football players come through the program and excel, but the time period between 2007 and 2011 was dominated by Jimmer Fredette. The 6-2 guard is legally James Fredette, but he went by Jimmer, which just added to the show that he would put on the court. He was the 2011 National Player of the Year and the NCAA Division I leading scorer as a senior.



With BYU back in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, Fredette has been attending games as a proud alumnus. Fredette had a long playing career, but he didn't always find himself on the court.

The momentum he had coming out of his college career quickly fizzled out until he played overseas. Most recently, Fredette has been supporting BYU during the tournament. He has primarily converted from regular basketball to 3v3 formats.

Fredette has participated in "The Basketball Tournament" and was set to represent Team USA at the 2024 Olympics in 3v3 basketball but suffered.
