A North Carolina dad is accused of abducting his daughter and killing her before he was caught alongside her body during a police chase. Michael Rufus Roach allegedly threatened the mother of his child with a gun inside their home at around 3am on Monday before taking their 6-year-old daughter and fleeing in the woman's car, according to a statement from the Polkton Police Department. Deputies with the Anson County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) responded to a 911 call from the mother but police said an Amber Alert was never issued because "there was no legal documentation establishing custody.
" A “be on the lookout” alert was placed for Roach and the Jeep Liberty he left in and just before 8am an ASCO deputy in Wadesboro spotted the vehicle. Officers attempted to pull him over and began pursuing the vehicle when he did not stop. “At the time of the pursuit we had knowledge that the child was deceased so at that time it turned from a domestic situation in our eyes to catching a murderer,” said Polkton Police Chief Tim Hutchinson.
During the police chase, Roach lost control of the car while traveling north on Little Creek Road and crashed into a ditch, officials said. Officers approached the vehicle and found Mianna Roach, 6, suffering a gunshot wound in the passenger seat. She was declared dead at the scene.
Roach was discovered in the driver's seat with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. "While it is early in the investigation, it is believed that the child was shot in the car.
